Louis Tomlinson revealed his friendship with ex One Direction member Zayn Malik ‘never really got better’ after the singer didn’t support his tribute performance to his late mother Johannah Deakin in Decembner 2016.
Speaking on The Dan Wootton Interview podcast on Friday, the singer, 27, admitted that it ‘really bugged’ him when Zayn ‘didn’t show’ at his X Factor appearance.
He explained: ‘Truthfully it never really got better to be honest, I had a couple of calls with him after I lose me mum and, you know, all the boys had agreed to come to that performance and he didn’t show and that really bugged me.
Without Zayn, the four=piece bonded again in grief for the firs time since their split. “I’ve got goosebumps now,” Louis says remembering the night. ‘It was just seeing everyone there – Harry, Niall and Liam – that was what I needed that night, that support.”
Then referring to Zayna gain, he adds: “So on the other end of the spectrum it kind of really showed. So, eh, I hope he’s alright, but…”
At this point, Louis give a one-fingered salute to the microphone.
“One of real respect. And I honestly mean that from the bottom of me heart. One of real respect definitely. Some of my frustrations with, like radio and where radio is at with sound, it’s very heavily influenced with all these urban sounds, it was really cool to see him go out and just totally own that record. Look, reality-the situation is there’s always gonna be better relationships in the band that you gravitate to other people more and I feel like- and kind of what I was saying before, with that relationship there, there’s a real
mutal respect. We spent a lot of time together and kind of graduated from that in maturity.”
